Egypt is considering purchasing Russian air defense missile systems
Due to the growing ballistic missile threat from Iran, the Egyptian armed forces are considering the acquisition of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems S-300 or C-400 . This was reported by ITAR-TASS reported with reference to the newspaper "Jerusalem Post".
S-300PMU2 "Favorite" is a means of long-range air defense and is designed to protect important administrative, industrial and military installations from attacks manned (airplane strategic and tactical aviation) and unmanned targets, including cruise missiles and aeroballistic. Currently, S-300 different modifications is the basis of modern air defense system of Russia.
High combat characteristics of S-300 provides effective engagement of different types of aerodynamic and ballistic targets. The system can simultaneously track up to 100 targets and fire at 6 of them with guidance on each of up to two missiles.
A destructive aerodynamic purposes of 3-200 km, 5-40 km ballistic, the height of the defeat - up to 27 km. Time of the complex to shoot no more than 5 min, and the probability of hitting the target with one missile reaches 0.98.
S-400 "Triumph" is a means of defense of the fifth generation and is designed to engage aerial targets aerodynamic (tactical and strategic aircraft, jammers, such as "AWACS", CR), including the use made of technology "Stealth", and ballistic missiles with a range of start-up to 3500 km, hypersonic targets and other current and future air threats.
Instrumental detection range reconnaissance purposes of anti-aircraft system is 600 km. S-400 can simultaneously track up to 300 targets and fire on 36 of these, 72 raketami.ZRS C-400 provides a defeat aerodynamic targets at ranges from 3 to 250 km altitude range from 2 to 27 km, ballistic missiles - a distance of 5 to 60 km away.
Simultaneously, the Defense Ministry of Egypt is making efforts to enhance the combat capabilities of its air force. Thus, the defense department had recently received the endorsement of the Pentagon's procurement of 12 American attack helicopters, AH-64D "Apache Longbow".
In May this year, the Agency for Defense Security and Cooperation (DSCA) notified the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Congress about the possible sale of 12 helicopters to Egypt AH-64D "Block 2" "Apache Longbow", 27 gas-turbine engines T700-GE-701D, 36 upgraded detection systems and target acquisition (M-TADS/PNVS), 28 missile launchers AGM-114B "Longbow Hellfire" M299, 14 automatic shooting false heat targets AN/ALQ-144 (V) 3, 14 sets of radar warning AN/APR-39B (V) 2, as well as associated equipment and services contract under the "Foreign military sales."
If implemented, the total value of all options, could reach 820 million dollars. According to media reports, the Egyptian Air Force also intends to acquire an additional batch of 24 F-16 fighters. Since the early 1980s. Egyptian Ministry of Defense in the United States acquired more than 200 fighters F-16A/B/C/D "Fighting Falcon", along with other weapons systems in the six-step program "Peace Vector". Last procured under the project "Peace Vector-6" F-16 aircraft to be delivered this year.
